Rix Petroleum Ltd and the Gazette and Herald got together to run a competition for the newspapers readers to win 500 litres of home heating oil, worth about £500.
Slingsby resident Helen Orchison was the lucky winner, a great Christmas present for the normally competition shy school governor. This early Christmas present was delivered on the first day of the icy weather in January, a great relief to Helen and her family knowing that they would have plenty of fuel to keep them warm and cosy however long the cold weather stayed.
Mrs Orchison commented “When the tanker came to deliver the heating oil it was the first day of the really bad weather in January. Snow was falling heavily so it was great timing because we knew we’d have plenty of fuel no matter how long the ice and snow lasted.”
Mrs Orchison asked for the fuel to be delivered in the New Year when her supply would be getting low, and it arrived just in time for the big freeze.
Duncan Lambert, director and general manager of Rix Petroleum Ltd, congratulated Mrs Orchison on her win. Mr Lambert said "It was a great pleasure to deliver to Helen and I’m delighted she was the lucky and deserving winner. I hope it helps her and her family stay warm until the better weather is upon us.”
