Benefits of Rix fuel tanks

There are many benefits to having your own fuel tank. Whether you need them for your business, farm, or home, there are many you should consider getting a heating oil tank. We have listed just a few of the main benefits below.

Prevent leaks and spills

One of the main benefits of fuel tanks is that due to the way they are designed, you can prevent spilling or leaking your oil and fuel. However, maintaining your fuel tank is key to preventing future leaks or spills. This is especially true with bunded fuel tanks.

Eco-friendly

Having a fuel tank is very eco-friendly as it helps to separate harmful chemicals from the surrounding environment. The chemicals in heating oil and fuel can be extremely toxic to the environment if exposed, so keeping them sealed in a fuel tank helps to prevent this.

Safety regulations

Having a heating oil tank can also help you to meet specific safety regulations. They are particularly useful if you have a large store of fuel on your site. By having fuel tanks, you can prove to regulators that your storage is up to code and you have taken the necessary precautions.

What is a bunded tank?

A bunded tank, or 'double-skinned' as they are sometimes named, is widely considered one of the safest methods of fuel storage. This is because they are essentially a 'tank within a tank'.

The inner layer houses the fuel or substance, which is then protected by a further outer layer. The space between the two layers is normally referred to as the 'bund'. The primary purpose of a bunded tank is to minimise the risk of leaks, spills and overflows, as well as prevent environmental contamination, protecting your fuel. Are fuel tanks compatible with HVO?

Yes, most of our supplied fuel tanks are fully HVO compatible. As HVO is chemically very similar to conventional diesel fuel, therefore HVO is usually compatible with the common materials found in fuel storage tanks.

However, it is always best to ensure your tank can safely store HVO fuels. Our team of advisors can answer any questions you may have regarding HVO storage, and help you discover the right tank for you. If you'd like to know more about HVO, visit our HVO page.

What does OFTEC mean?

With the increasing complexity of regulations involved in oil-fired equipment servicing, it's important your services are carried out by a trained, OFTEC engineer. OFTEC is the Oil Firing Technical Association - which is an independent body governing the certification of oil-fired equipment engineers and technicians.

To be an OFTEC-certified engineer, one must pass specific examinations focusing on the quality of installations and services.

What regulations are in place for fuel tank installation?

- 1.8m away from non-fire-rated eaves of a building
- 1.8m away from a non-fire-rated structure/building
